The
Short-Term Missions Program is one of the most exciting and dynamic experiences an individual can participate in at Central Church. It provides the opportunity to travel to another country and show the love of Jesus Christ to both those who have never heard the Gospel as well as to other believers in a different culture. However, many questions can arise as to what is involved in the program. Listed below are answers to several of the most common questions that people ask regarding our Short-Term Missions Program. We ask only that you pray about your involvement as you consider how the Lord would like to use you here at Central Church!
Q Are your trips open to everyone or just members of Central?
A All of the trips we offer are open to both members as well as those who only attend Central. On some occasions Central works in conjunction with other churches. The primary requirement is that all participants know Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. Additionally, all participants must complete the training and team building activities.
Q Where does Central send teams?
A Central is involved with ministries in many countries worldwide including Central and South America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.
Q What does it cost to go on a mission trip with Central?
A The cost of a trip varies depending on the destination, host country accommodations, and any special supplies that may be required. Team members can raise or pay for all or a part of their own support. We will discuss several options for doing this at the team orientation meeting. Most importantly, we encourage participants to trust the Lord for their finances. We absolutely believe that if it His will that you go, the funds will be in place.
Q How do you prepare your teams and how long do they generally stay?
A Each team participates in a 12-week training program designed to deepen your relationship with the Lord, build your relationship with your teammates, prepare you for the particular culture that you will visit, and much more. The length of a trip obviously depends on the destination and ministry. However, we can safely say that most short-term trips last about nine or ten days.
Q How do I sign up?
A If you would like to be considered for a mission trip, you may either obtain an application form from the Welcome Center or request the Missions Department (ext. 6865) to mail one to you, fill it out completely, and either return the application by mail or turn it in at the Administrative building. It is as simple as that! Once we have received your application a Missions Department representative will be in touch with you to schedule your interview.
Q What if I am not physically fit or very knowledgeable of the Bible?
A Central Church sends out a variety of teams including evangelism teams, teaching teams, children’s ministry teams, and prayerwalking teams. We have found there is a place for just about everyone that would like to be involved. The Lord is simply looking for willing and available vessels to work through. Ask someone who has gone before and see for yourself!
