Urban Ministry
JACKSON PARK MINISTRIES
This ministry serves the Jackson Park area and the surrounding community as a haven for the less fortunate and the addicted. With a solid biblical approach, its hope is that families will be restored as lives are changed by the power of the Holy Spirit. One unique facet of this outreach is its Transitional Housing Ministry, where broken families are brought back together under the same roof. Other ministries include: benevolence, clothes closet, food pantry, Thanksgiving and Christmas meals/gifts, tutoring, recreation.
How you can help:
Central’s primary involvement is with our Tuesday night dinners and our summer VBS. We also have a number of individuals who volunteer as financial counselors for some of the families.
VBS AT JACKSON PARK
We will be having vacation Bible school the week of June 30th.This is a great opportunity to show underprivileged children the love of Jesus. If you would like to volunteer to teach, create crafts, or help in any way, please contact Lynn.
TOTES FOR TOTS TO TEENS
Mecklenburg County Foster Care
Children entering foster care rarely come into custody with personal items to call their own. For this reason, Central assists Mecklenburg Youth and Family Services by providing bags stuffed with items to help them transition into foster care as easily as possible. Each bag is created to meet the child’s needs and to be age and gender specific. Over 250 children enter foster care each year in Mecklenburg County alone, and Central provides a bag for each one of them.
At any given moment, approximately 200 children are cleared and waiting for a new family. Central encourages and supports members of our church to reach out to Mecklenburg County children who don’t have families. If you are interested in learning more about the rewards (and trials) of foster parenting, please contact Ashley.
PROGRESSIVE BAPTIST CHURCH
We will be working with Progressive with their Youth Quake Summer Camp.
The dates for the camp are June 23-August 22. If you would like to volunteer to help them anytime during these weeks, please contact Shirley Woodard.
