Central has been active in Panama for the past 12 years, supporting the National Church of God as well as one of Central's own missionaries, Jean Parks. The Lord has blessed Jean with a tremendous ministry in Panama City. The "Heart To Heart Prayer Ministry" was established in 2001 and classes were developed and taught from Titus 2:1-15. The ministry is set up to train and work individually with the pastors in 4-5 churches weekly for at least six(6)months in order to find and disciple non-believers, teach the Word of God, feed their families, create prayer groups, hold baptisms and teach church doctrine classes. The entire family must come to the classes and frequent visits are made to establish a relationship with them outside of the church classes, which are usually 60-190 new persons. Many of them become members of the church and are now leaders. This is how God has used the ministry to help increase the growth of the churches.
Central also supports Bishop Roberto Taton in Panama who chairs the Ministerio de Restauracion de Alcance Internacional, a religious nonprofit organization, and Central Belen Church of God that has been developing for 14 years doing social and spiritual work in different provinces of the Republic of Panama. This work includes hosting short-term mission teams, evangelistic crusades, church planting, youth trips, hospital visits, prison visits, counseling, and work in over sixty communities of difficult access and extreme poverty. Young people and adults from the United States and Panama are working together with the objective of resolving situations that pressure the young people of today, such as substance abuse, low self-esteem, and personal consequences of sex outside marriage. The methods we use are dramas, puppetry, lectures, talks, testimonies, music and choreography.
In July of 2009 Dennis and Betsy Steinmetz celebrated their 3rd anniversary of ministering in Belize according to a principle from the book, Experiencing God:
“Look to see where God is working and join Him in his work.”
Consequently, they have been involved in various works with several ministries in the Toledo District. These range from drilling water wells to teaching the Biblical principles of starting a Business. Betsy enjoys assisting with a weekly Bible study for K’ekchi’ women and she also enjoys singing hymns in K’ekchi’. Dennis coordinates an independent study Christian high school program and regularly visits Estelle, a bedridden elderly woman. At the time of this writing, he is working to modify a wheelchair for her. The Steinmetz’s are frequently invited to give testimony concerning God’s provision, and preach in the local churches. They have put on dramas and puppet shows, taught Sunday school and Bible studies, and led a VBS. Dennis has been surprised to so often find himself working with the Youth.
The Steinmetz’s thank God for their home in Belize and the friendships that have developed.
“It’s all about relationships ~and that’s not just a cliché.”
They pray that God will continue to order their steps as they seek opportunities to share the gospel of Jesus Christ in more and more remote villages.
