“For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths”
2 Timothy 4:3-4
MISSION STATEMENT
“To train young men and women, based on the inerrant and infallible written Word of God, to understand the basics of the Christian faith in order to grow in maturity in their own relationship with Christ, defend the historic Christian faith, and for the evangelization of the world”
Our goal as the Life Student Ministries Sunday Discipleship program is to develop a true and complete disciple of Christ. Each student will know exactly what they believe as a Christian, why they believe it, correctly study/interpret the Bible and “handle the Word of truth” (2 Tim. 2:15). They will have a passionate love for God through a complete knowledge of Him, worship, and a desire to serve Him everyday. As a result, they will have a desire to share Christ with others, serve both Christians and non-Christians, as well as around the youth ministry where and when needed.
In order to accomplish these goals, our discipleship program will aim to provide the following for our students:
· Provide purpose in our program
· Provide quality teachers
· Provide quality instruction to equip our students
· Provide outreach opportunities for all classes
Structure of the Program
In order to fully develop our students into disciples of Christ who are as prepared as they can be in order to face the world, both in high school and then in college, the discipleship program will have the following basic structure for our classes:
* Classes will be divided by grade (6-12).
* The same classes will be taught at the 8:30am and 10:30am services
Teaching Requirements
All individuals who are interested in teaching a class during the Fall, Spring, or Summer semesters will be required to fulfill the following requirements:
· Complete a teacher application form and turn it in.
· Complete a Youth Worker application (if not already done)
· Applicants must agree with the Doctrinal Statement of Central Church, as well as the mission and policies of Life Student Ministries.
· All new applicants must interview with the Director of Discipleship
· Meet with Director of Discipleship to discuss goals and curriculum of class
· Before the semester where each teacher has a class, they must attend a mandatory Teaching Seminar that will give them ideas on how to teach their class, as well discuss policies and procedures for classes. If a teacher is going to teach more than one semester, they are only required to come to the first training session.
· All teachers must teach the given curriculum for each class and ensure that the students learn everything in it by semester’s end. It is not a time for teacher’s to do their own agenda or teach something else that doesn’t pertain to the class.
· Only one semester is required to teach, but teachers may teach two or three, if they so desire.
· Each teacher is encouraged to take off one semester a year to rest, recuperate, and regain focus for future classes
· Each class will be given a teacher evaluation at the end of the semester to evaluate the teacher in order to provide insight on how to improve the class and teaching techniques.
